About Mihemed Şêxo
Mihemed Şêxo is one of the foundational voices of modern Kurmanji music. Born in Qamişlo (Syrian Kurdistan) in 1948, he combined the dengbêj oral tradition with contemporary instrumentation, recording extensively in Damascus and later in Sweden. He died in exile in 1989. His work bridges Northern Kurdish folk and the political music movement that emerged in the 1970s and 80s.
