About Sayyid Khalil Alinejad
Sayyid Khalil Alinejad was a master of the Yarsan tanbur tradition. Born in 1962 in Kermanshah province, Iran, he was both a religious leader within the Yarsan (Ahl-e Haqq) community and a virtuoso tanbur player. His recordings are among the most important documentation of the Yarsan musical-religious tradition. He was killed under disputed circumstances in 2001 — his death is widely considered a religiously and politically motivated targeted killing.
