Şakiro
Also known as: Sakiro · شاكرو
Region: Iğdır region, Turkish Kurdistan
About Şakiro
Şakiro is widely regarded as the most important post-war Kurmanji dengbêj. Born in 1936 in the Iğdır region of Turkish Kurdistan, his voice carried the dengbêj epic tradition through the most repressive decades of the 20th century. His unaccompanied vocal performances of long Kurmanji destan narratives are reference recordings for anyone studying classical dengbêj. He died in 1996 — his recordings remain a touchstone of the tradition.
