About the Ney (Bilûr)
An end-blown reed flute, breathy and expressive. Closely related to the Persian and Turkish ney. The Kurmanji bilûr is often a simpler, shorter shepherd's flute variant. Used in slow, contemplative pieces and pastoral songs.

How to learn
Ney is among the more difficult instruments to begin — embouchure (mouth position) takes months to develop. Sufi music traditions provide the strongest pedagogy.
